Karat meets Karunanidhi, says no plans for third front

CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat on Monday ruled out formation of a third front by Left Parties at the national level in immediate future.

“We have no plans to form a third front immediately,” he told reporters after meeting DMK patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at his residence in Chennai.

He discussed the Indo-US nuclear deal with Karunanidhi, besides the current political developments in the country, he added.

“We want a commonality of approach by political parties on the nuclear deal. That was why, we also met the leaders of UNPA in New Delhi recently,” Karat said.

Asked whether there was a threat to the UPA Government in the wake of the stand-off with the Left parties over the nuclear deal, he said “as far as we are concerned, there is no threat to the Government.”
