LUCKNOW, JANUARY 10: But once Chetan arrived, there was a dramatic change in the fortunes of PSCB who went on to win the men's team title for the sixth time in a row, their seventh overall triumph in the final. Like the presence of Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian cricket team, Chetan Baboor's appearance boosts the morale of the PSCB team.Chetan, who moved over to Sweden some four years ago to play in the National League there in order to improve his game, now comes to India only to participate in the Nationals or to play in PSCB inter-unit tournaments for his employers, Indian Oil.After the Nationals here, Chetan is bound for Bangalore where the PSCB inter-unit tournament is scheduled from January 18 to 22. Then he will go to Patiala to attend the preparatory camp for the Commonwealth Championships at Singapore (Feb 10-16) and the World Team Championships at Kuala Lumpur (Feb 18-26).Chetan Baoor, who has had a grand 1999 with a win over Chinese Liu Guolisng in the Asia top 12 men's event, is confident of defending his men's doubles title in the Commonwealth Championships which he won last time at Glasgow (1997) in S Raman's company. ``I am looking forward to the Singapore C'wealth meet and also to the pre-Olympics tournament at Hong Kong in the first week of March,'' Chetan said after leading the PSCB to their title win at the Nationals.Chetan admired the training method in Sweden and in other European countries which has helped them remain on top. ``I am convinced that unless we have a similar system here from school level with financial support and proper coaching it will be very difficult to churn out world beater. What is more important is that guidance must also be given to the players from the very beginning,'' he added.Chinese coach Lei Wei at the PSCB Academy (Ajmer), who is here to see the performance of his trainees at the Nationals, agreed with Chetan's views. ``The main reasons for India's slackness in the game are lack of programme, proper guidance, capable coaches and sufficient time for training and practice at junior level.Physically and mentally, the Indian players have to be more tough,'' Lei Wei feels. He is, however, satisfied with the progress made by his Academy boys. ``Their real test will come when they perform against senior players. They have to be consistent and positive in their approach,'' he added.
