RANCHI, AUG 16: The Jharkhand People’s Party (JPP) today appealed to all Jharkhand parties to put aside their "self-interest" and come together "unconditionally" in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The JPP Political Affairs Committee (PAC) urged the parties to come together for the sake of "broader Jharkhand unity" in view of the polls, JPP secretary general Praveen Prabhakar told newspersons after the PAC meeting here.
The JPP secretary general said no effort for broader Jharkhand unity could be complete without the participation of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (Soren), "which still occupied the centrestage of Jharkhand politics."
Prabhakar said only if JMM-S chief Sibu Soren came up with a formula on Jharkhand unity would the JPP consider it seriously.
The JPP PAC meeting was held under the chairmanship of party president Vinod Bhagat.
The PAC authorised the working president of JPP to negotiate with Soren to become part of a pro-Jharkhand front.
His party was ready to join a front of Jharkhand outfits led by JMM-S if Soren came up with such an idea, Bhagat told PTI
. "Without the inclusion of the JMM-S in the pack, the Jharkhand parties cannot prevent the division of votes in the coming polls," Bhagat commented.
The JPP will now actively support the newly-formed Jharkhand front — comprising Jharkhand Party (Horo) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (Ulgulan group) — in their effort to foster Jharkhand unity.
His party would like to forge an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the forthcoming polls, Bhagat said.
The JPP would finalise the list of candidates on August 19 when the PAC is scheduled to have another meeting here, he said.
