Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) has served a show cause notice to its seniormost leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, seeking an explanation on his reported move to form a separate Jamaat-like party. The Jamaat had sacked Geelani’s trusted aide and chief of JeI’s political bureau Ashraf Sehrai on Wednesday. In the notice, Geelani, who is part of Jamaat’s Majlis-e-Shoura, has been asked to explain why he is issuing statements against the organisation in violation of the party’s discipline. Geelani has denied having committed any violation of the Jamaat’s constitution, saying its members are authorised to hold interactions.
