New Delhi, Aug 20: It was at the Philip Morris Asia Cup last year, that Jeev Milkha Singh scored one of his greatest victories a 26-under par effort, also one of the lowest-ever recorded in the game. On Thursday, he begins the defence of same title and coming as it does soon after his third-place performance at the US $ 500,000 SingTel Ericsson Open in Singapore, Jeev’s game and confidence are on a high.

Last week in Singapore, he ended joint third and four strokes behind the winner, Zaw Moe of Myanmar, scoring his first win in seven years. As for Jeev, but for a triple bogey on the 18th in the third round, the gap between him and Moe might have been tantalisingly close.

“My game has slowly been coming back to me,” Jeev Singh was quoted as saying according to information reaching here. “In Singapore, for much of that third round I really felt like I could do nothing wrong. I was upset when I took an eight iron on the last but I soon got over it. Last year I really struggled with my game, mainly because I tried to change my swing, but this season things have been far better,” he added.

On the Philip Morris Asia Cup last September, Jeev said: “That remains the highlight of my career so far. It is strange how it came in the middle of such a poor season but I played so well.”

South Korea has been a happy hunting ground for Jeev. For it was there in 1994, that he won his first big professional tournament, the Shinhan Donghae Open – one of the top events on the Korean PGA tour. Apart from the Asia Cup success, he was also second in the Omega Tour’s 1995 Passport Open behind Vijay Singh, one of world’s top golfers.
