Last week proved to be an excellent week for Jeev Milkha Singh who made some solid decisions that resulted in a good performance. He opted to play the European tour and obviously enjoyed the Swiss hospitality as he went on to record his first top-ten in Europe this season. Rounds of 71, 70, 66 and 70 on the Seve Ballesteros Course at Crans-sur-Sieere, Switzerland where the Omega European Masters was played, saw Jeev finish the tournament with a total of 277, seven-under-par. This tenth place finish moved him up to 155 on the Volvo Order of Merit and also guaranteed him a place in the next event — the three million dollar Linde German Masters. Meanwhile, back in Asia, Jyoti Randhawa remained glued to number 14 as he recorded his third consecutive top-15 finish. Rounds of 70, 73, 67 and 71, taking his total to seven-under for the week as well left him in a tie with Adam Scott as well as three Asian tour players. A stroke behind, Amandeep Johl finished 19th at six-under-par for the week. The Asian tour’s leading money winner, Arjun Atwal almost missed his second cut in as many weeks and was three over for the tournament after seven holes on day two, but four birdies coming in saw him safely negotiate the halfway cut. However, two consecutive 73’s over the weekend saw him finish way behind, in 49th place at one-over.The star attractions at the Kolon Korea Open were Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott — whose swing has often been compared to Tiger Woods’ — and Choi Kyung-ju, who became the first Korean to win on the USPGA tour, earlier this year. Needless to say, the galleries were out and followed all the action with the leading three-ball — Garcia, Wook-soon and Kyung-ju — who played together the first two days. Sergio who carded the lowest four-day total on the Asian tour, setting a new record with his tournament total of 23-under-par, won the tournament. However, close on his heels was legendary Korean player, Kang Wook-soon, who finished second at 20-under, evidence that Asian golf is not far behind. Back on the PGA of India’s tour, Mukesh Kumar won the Hindu Open in Chennai with a total of 19-under-par. Digvijay Singh, who leads the Order of Merit after a creditable run so far this year, finished third, three strokes behind runner-up Feroz Ali.
