Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today indicated that the government would take action to declare the post of Chennai mayor as vacant if DMK MLA and Mayor M.K. Stalin did not give up his legislature or civic body posts within 15 days.

Asked what would be the fate of the Chennai Mayor’s post now, Jayalalithaa told mediapersons here that ‘‘the law will do what it is supposed to’’.

DMK President M. Karunanidhi has said Stalin would not quit either of the posts. ‘‘We do not respect this law and there is no need for us to resign. If they take away the mayoral post from Stalin, we will be happy,’’ he said.
