Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Thursday suspended the jail terms awarded to eight police and civil officials for manhandling deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in March after he was suspended. The new judges said the sentences would remain suspended till further orders.
2 boys shot in protest
KARACHI: Two boys were killed in Karachi when gunfire erupted during a protest by supporters of former premier Benazir Bhutto, police said. “There was a demonstration against the house arrest of Bhutto. Someone among the demonstrators opened fire and two boys aged around 11 or 12 were killed,” a police official said.
Channels back on air
Islamabad: At least four international news channels and two local networks, which had been taken off cable following imposition of emergency in Pakistan, returned to screens on Thursday BBC, Sky News, CNN and Fox News have been allowed on cable by the authorities, apart from local channels Aaj and Dawn.
