
CALCUTTA, FEB 6: Jacob Martin struck a stylish 242 to propel Baroda to a mammoth 541 in their first innings against Bengal on the second day of their four-day Group A Ranji Trophy Super League tie at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club Ground here today.
In reply, Bengal were 22 for no loss at close with Nikhil Haldipur (15) and Deep Dasgupta (5) on the crease.
Martin, unbeaten on 99 overnight, completed his fourth hundred of the tournament this season with a single off the third ball of the day pushing Ranadeb Bose to backward square leg. His hundred came in 276 minutes of 238 balls.
The other overnight not out batsman, skipper Tushar Arothe also completed his ton about half an hour into the day’s play. Arothe took 234 minutes and faced 185 balls to reach the three figure mark.

Tanna strikes ton
RAJKOT: While most of the Saurashtra batsmen have been having rollicking affairs with success this season, Sudhir Tanna has maintained a single status all through. Today on the second day of the Group C Ranji Trophy Super League encounter against Haryana, Tanna finally broke off with failure to sustain the hosts’ recent association with domination.
Tanna’s 101 run effort at the RMC ground here helped Saurashtra finish at 215-3 and also belittle Haryana’s first innings total of 338. This was Tanna’s eighth Ranji hundred and his 44th match also saw him complete 3,000 runs in this domestic event.

Orissa take control
PATIALA: An unbrokensecond-wicket stand of 165 between opener S S Das (100 batting) and P Malik (76 batting) helped Orissa pile up 245 for one on the opening day of their Super-League Ranji Trophy Match against Railways here today.
Orissa won the toss and elected to bat. They lost opener PJ Chandra for 33 when he was clean bowled by Murali Kartik with the total reading 77. But thereafter Railways failed to achieve any further success as the Orissa batsmen went from strength to strength to pile up an impressive score by stumps.

Rajasthan pile on
JAIPUR: Good knocks by P Krishnakumar (133 not out) and Manish Singh (82) helped Rajasthan reach a formidable 521 for eight against Punjab at close of the second day’s play in the Group A encounter today.
Rajasthan resuming their innings at the overnight total of 252 for five, lost Anil Sinha (11) cheaply but all rounder P Krishnakumar (29 overnight) producedfruitful partnership of 68 runs for the seventh wicket with Devendra Pal Singh (44) and then added 149 runs for the eighth wicket with Manish Singh.
P Krishanakumar reached his fourth hundred in 404 minutes and 299 balls and was studded with six fours and a six and remained unconquered at stumps. The other not out batsman was Md Aslam (18).
