The BJP demanded a statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Railway Minister Lalu Prasad’s remarks that the increase in prices was the “handiwork” of traders sponsored by the saffron party.

“The prime minister must come out with a categorical statement whether a senior cabinet colleague, who makes such bizarre and devastating statement, is fit to continue in the government,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

Prasad had alleged on Friday that the rise in the prices of essential commodities was the “handiwork” of BJP sponsored traders.

Prasad had said that a sudden increase in prices after the submission of the report of the 6th Pay Commission needs to be investigated.
