CHANDIGARH, Oct 29: The competition between the trio Parnita Garewal, Irina Brar and Guneet Raikhy became intense as the day became hotter on the concluding day of the 7th Punjab Open ladies amateur golf championship here at the Chandigarh Golf Club. But in the end the result was reverse Irina, overnight leader pipped her more experienced opponent Parnita by three strokes to lift title. She shot four over 76 today while Parnita score was six over 78. Guneet who finished third had a card of eight over 80.

For the newly crowned champion it was a superb round’ which enabled her to grab the top slot. It was, however, not the same for Guneet. “My chips and putts let me down today,” said Guneet after her round. But seasoned Parnita was more sporting: “It was not my day.”

The day began well for Irina who made straight pars till the 5th where a missed putt caused a bogey. But on the other hand, on the front nine, Parnita made three bogeys and Guneet Raikhy had dropped four shots despite two birdies on the 2nd and 4th.

Irina continued to play steady golf on the back nine and dropped only two more shots to cruise home with a three stroke lead over Parnita Garewal.Taran Simran Singh won the silver and the senior divisions at a canter from Sheena Sekhon and Vijay Wadhawan.

In the bronze division Vijay Wadhawan takes the gross prize and young Mina Johl claimed the nett prize.
