Fearing the wrath of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Diwakar Prashad, senior IPS officer holding the post of DGP (Vigilance), Himachal Pradesh, has ‘‘joined duty’’ back in the Union Home Ministry without informing the authorities in Shimla and getting relieved.
Prashad figured on Virbhadra’s hit list for having been instrumental in registering the much-hyped criminal case of corruption and ‘misuse of office’ relating to distribution rights to a Sirmaur-based katha company. Virbhadra had sought bail from a local court in the case.
Prashad had been camping in Delhi since the Congress government came to power in the state. Sources said the officer has been attending work in Delhi even though he is yet to be relieved by the state government.
‘‘He opted for the backdoor to go back to the Home Ministry. He neither informed the state authorities nor was relieved from the present posting,’’ stated a senior official in the Home Department. A 1968 batch IPS officer, Prashad came to the state for an unspecified period of time. Earlier, he had served in various capacities for more than 20 years in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Central Police Organisations (CPOs) in Delhi.
A top official in the Home Department told The Indian Express that they would take up the issue with the Home Ministry.
