Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, back after a one-match ban, helped his side reach 102/2 at lunch on the first day of the second and final test against West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica on Friday.

Inzamam (27 not out), who was suspended for excessive appealing in the last Test of the tour to India in April, and Younis Khan (38 not out) shared an unbroken partnership of 59 after the home team had removed the openers cheaply.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat but West Indies, 1-0 up in the series, struck with the score on 16 when Daren Powell had Yasir Hameed caught at first slip by Chris Gayle for 14.

Shoaib Malik then edged an outswinger from Corey Collymore and was caught behind for 13 to leave the visitors 43/2. Malik, like Inzamam, was also returning after missing the first Test due to suspension. Salman Butt and Bazid Khan were left out.

West Indies replaced injured paceman Fidel Edwards with Tino Best, who produced a fiery opening spell. Inzamam, on nought, had a narrow escape when he survived a big shout for lbw from Collymore after offering no shot to a ball outside off stump.

The two teams observed a minute’s silence before the start in memory of former Pakistan captain Fazal Mahmood, who died in his home town of Lahore earlier this week.

Brief scores

Pakistan: 102/2 (Y Khan 38 no, Inzamam-ul-Haq 27 no)
