ICICI Prudential has issued an official apology after a Kanpur branch of the insurance company was found to be using posters of Osama Bin Laden urging employees to “kill one enemy” as part of sales promotion.

The matter reached the Uttar Pradesh Assembly today with BJP MLA Satish Mahana demanding action against the company. Five employees of the Mall Road branch in Kanpur, including branch manager Sanjeev Bhatia, have been arrested under Section 153(b) and Section 120(b) of the IPC for anti-national activities.

Kanpur SSP P C Meena said a customer who visited the Mall Road branch registered a complaint with the police after seeing Osama posters inside the office. The posters read: “Kill one enemy and take home one set of beautiful crystal glasses. Kill more and take… Glasses will given on every kill… by Osama bin Laden. Date of killing — July 18, 19, 20.”

On raiding the branch, police found the posters pasted all over the office and arrested five employees.

Shikha Sharma, ICICI Prudential’s MD, said the company did not endorse the promotional posters. “We are investigating the matter. We are highly embarrassed and apologetic about the whole issue. The office was motivating customers to buy policies and this was part of it,” she said.
