CHANDIGARH, Feb 7: Punjab State Warehousing Corporation has decided to set up an Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Mohali and improve road links of depots in Jalandhar, Amritsar and container freight station in Ludhiana with the ports in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Kandla. The move is aimed at minimising transit delay in the movement of export-import cargo.

The plans were unveiled by the corporation at the 29th session of the Standing Committees on Promotion of Exports by Sea (SCOPE0-Shipping) and Promotion of Exports by Air (SCOPE-Air) here. The meeting, chaired by Nripendra Mishra, additional secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, discussed the difficulties being experienced by importers and exporters of Punjab.

The meeting, attended by the chief executives of ports and senior officials, decided to take up the issue of implementation of DEPB scheme at ICDs in Jalandhar and Amritsar with the Customs Department to give a boost to exports. The warehousing corporation informed the committees thatit would launch the facility of "bonded trucking" to international airports in Amritsar and Delhi from March 1 next to facilitate exports by air.
