
NEW DELHI, June 22: The rate of increase in prices continued to dip with the annual inflation based on Wholesale Price Index WPI declining by 0.1 points to 5.83 for the week ended June 7.The steady decline in inflation is mainly due to the fall in prices of primary articles8217; in the last three months, mainly due to a plunge of 20.72 in the prices of vegetables since February.
The annual inflation provisional, calculated on a point-to-point basis, eased to 5.83 in the reference week from 5.93 the week before. Compared to this the rate of inflation during the corresponding week last year was 4.52 .
The rate of increase in prices has been moving southward in the last few months and has shed over two percentage points from a high of 8 in February. Meanwhile, the official WPI for all commodities8217; Base 1981-82-100 recorded 0.1 fall to 323.2 provisional during the week under review as against 323.5 provisional the week before.
The annual rate of inflation based on the final index for the week ended April 12, 1997, stood at 6.6 .
