India today waived off the Rs 50 million credit it gave to Surinam in 1992 and simultaneously issued a fresh credit line of $10 million to the country.

A thankful visiting President of Surinam R.R. Venetiaan voiced support for a permanent seat for India in the UN Security Council. The Government donated $100,000 worth medicine for treatment of different diseases to Surinam. A memorandum of understanding for cooperation in agricultural sector was also signed by the two countries. During his visit Venetiaan held discussions with Prime Minister Vajpayee and other leaders.
