NEW DELHI, June 13: The Indian hockey team have will play a host of international events in their fine-tuning for the 1998 Commonwealth and Asian Games and the World Cup in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

India will host a four-nation event in July featuring Egypt, Zimbabwe and Kenya, with the venue and dates still to be fixed. The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia, is slated to be held from November 1 to 9.

As part of the efforts to bring India and Pakistan together more often, a four-nation event which would also see Korea and Malaysia participating, is slated to be held in Dubai later this year.

India, however, have been replaced by arch-rivals Pakistan in a four-nation tournament to be held in Hamburg, Germany, from August 21 to 24. Besides the hosts and Pakistan, Australia and Holland will participate.

Sidhu fit

PATIALA: Indian Test opener, Navjot Singh Sidhu, who suffered a right hamstring injury at the fag end of the recent West Indies tour was today declared `medically fit’ and cleared for competitive cricket.

The 33-year-old Sidhu who suffered the injury on April 30 on the eve of the third one-day international, was medically evaluated by Dr Ashok Ahuja, head of the Department of Sports Medicine at the Netaji Institute of Sports here.

With the physiotherapy and rehabilitation programme followed, Sidhu has attained full `functional recovery’, the report said.

Dalmiya honoured

CALCUTTA: The International Cricket Council (ICC) president Jagmohan Dalmiya has been made an honorary life member of the Marylebourne Cricket Club (MCC).According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources here today, Dalmiya, who is also its secretary, was given the rare honour at an official MCC dinner in London last night.
