CHANDIGARH: The 26th Asian School Football Championship would be held in Bihar from September 2 to October 2 this year.
The secretary general of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), B D Gandhi said that the invitations have been sent to all the member countries of the Asian School Football federation namely Philippines, Thailand Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Macau, Vietnam, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal.
Bihar to join IBC
BANGALORE: The Indian Badminton Confederation is getting overwhelming response with Bihar becoming the seventh unit to seek affiliation from the newly-floated body headed by former All-England Open champion Prakash Padukone.
Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal and Indian Universities besides Karnataka had already sought affiliation from the IBC launched on June 18 in the city. Two members from Bihar called on the IBC, a parallel body to the Badminton Association of India (BAI) this morning seeking affiliation.
Duleep schedule
CHENNAI: North Zone take on East Zone in the Pepsi Duleep Trophy tournament scheduled at Hyderabad from Dec 1-5. Central, West and South zones were given a bye to the second round of the tournament and Central plays winners of East and North at Bangalore from Dec 9-13, while West and South clash at Bangalore from Dec 9. The final would be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium from Dec 17-21.
The Deodhar matches are: Central vs East (Tamil Nadu, Dec 29), West vs North (Hyderabad, Dec 29), South vs Central (Karnataka, Jan 2, 1998), East vs West (TN, Jan 2), South vs North (Bangalore, Jan 6), South vs West (Kerala, Jan 10) and North vs East (Goa, Jan 10).
TNEB stay afloat
TUTICORIN: Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), Chennai scored an emphatic 15-10, 15-13, 15-3 victory over Titanium, Thiruvananthapuram and kept their hopes alive for a semi-final berth in the all India Volleyball Tournament.
In the women’s four-team round robin league, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Thiruvananthapuram registered their second win, overpowering Karnataka 16-14, 15-1, 15-5.
Indians second
CHENNAI: The Indian boys did their country proud, finishing second in the inaugural Asian Youth (under-19) Fast Pitch Softball Championship. In the final the Indian lads lost 1-10 to Philippines.
In the girls section, Japan, who won all their matches in the championship, scored a hard-fought 2-0 win over China for the pennant.
