Sunita bags bronze medal
MUMBAI: Sunita Godara, 40, was third in the Penang International Bridge Marathon 1999, according to a release from the Youth and Sports Department, Perak, Malaysia.
She also won a bronze in the Open in Malacca International Historic half marathon on July 27.
Indian eves win
MUMBAI: Anjum Chopra scored 128 as India beat England by 86 runs to clinch the Women’s International limited-overs cricket series at Northampton with a game to spare.
The left-hander scored off 128 balls, including 13 boundaries, as India reached 213-7 from 50 overs. In reply, England were all out for 127, including three run outs, in 43.5 overs.
Aparna bows out
NEW DELHI: National champion Aparna Popat’s lost 1-11, 1-11 to Zhou Mi of China in the Thailand Open badminton championship women’s singles quarter-finals at Bangkok.
Earlier, she beat unseeded Nucharin Teekhatrakul 11-9, 13-10 to reach the last eight. She bowed out in the second round of the Malaysian Open in KualaLumpur last week.
Simmi’s woes
NEW DELHI: Simmi Mehra fired a five-over par 77 to take 36th position after the second round of the Michelob Light Classic at St Louis, Missouri.
Mehra failed to improve upon on her first round 76 on Friday and was placed in the middle of the leaderboard at the Forest Hill Country Club course.
