No one would be able to miss the Indian presence at the World Economic Forum’s annual summit at Davos this year. The Indian economic community has come together under a initiative, spearheaded by the CII, the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) and Ministry of Tourism. The initiative stresses on a focused communication campaign to enhance the Brand India ‘‘touch points’’ through special events and promotions. This includes an advertising campaign to position India as the ‘‘fastest growing free market democracy’’.

A high powered delegation including senior representatives from the government like Finance minister P. Chidambaram, Commerce and Industry minister Kamal Nath, deputy chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, will be attending the summit.

They would be accompanied by prominent Indian business leaders like Y.C. Deveshwar, chairman, ITC, Mukesh Ambani, CMD, Reliance Industries and Nandan Nilekani, CEO, president and Managing Director, Infosys Technologies among others.

The campaign, which has been named ‘‘India Everywhere’’ intends to focus on the unique value proposition India offers to the world by ensuring a continued and sustained presence of India in major global events throughout 2006.

Emphasising the need for such an approach, Y.C. Deveshwar said, ‘‘Every CEO needs to grasp the forces that are shaping the world. And the Davos meet is a quick way of engaging with the world community and all its diversities. You can bring home valuable lessons; it also helps you to benchmark yourself against your peers globally’’.

‘‘India Everywhere’’ project also includes a cultural extravaganza for the international delegates. ‘‘India Hour’’ at select hotels across Davos will allow delegates to flavour complimentary Indian food every evening. A selection of Indian contemporary art would also be exhibited at Davos during the meet.

The WEF’s annual meeting in Davos is the most important business event in the world where over 2000 global leaders would be congregating to shape global, regional & industry agenda and to find solutions to the global challenges.
