Pak trounce India 4-1 in snooker

DUBAI: A superb performance by Siddharth Rao notwithstanding, India lost 1-4 to Pakistan in the Emirates International Snooker Championship.

Siddharth defeated Farhan Mirza in the opening tie but all the other Indians lost. In the second match, Saleh Mohammed beat back a stiff challenge from Dharminder Lilly 4-2. Pakistan sealed the encounter when 19-year-old Khurram Agha shocked former Asian champion Yasin Merchant 3-2. Pakistan skipper Navin Pherwani accounted for Ashok Shandilya while Atif Bux beat Sarang Shroff.

`Rehman immature’

DUBAI: Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mujeeb ur Rehman is “immature who does not know anything about the game as he is not a cricketer,” said team’s coach, Wasim Raja.

The PCB chairman, “interfered with my duties and I was forced to tell him to look after the administrative affairs of the board and leave cricket to me. He was not ready for that, so I quit,” Raja, who relinquishes his job as the team coach after theSharjah tournament, was quoted as saying in Gulf News.

Jeev moves up

BANGKOK: Jeev Milkha Singh fired 69 in the second round to climb to joint sixth position in the Lexus International Golf Tournament. Jyoti Randhawa also had a very good round here, returning 68 to climb up to the 18th place while Arjun Singh recorded a 69 to move up and share the 28th spot.

Three other Indians made the cut on the second day which saw Pakistan’s Taimur Hussain remain one stroke ahead of Singapore’s Mardan Mamat and South Africa’s Hendrik Buhrmann. The Indians making the cut included Amandeep Johl (74), Uttam Singh Mundy (144) and Amritinder Singh (145).

Mukesh keeps lead

LUCKNOW: Mukesh Kumar was leading the board for the second consecutive day, with five under 135, after two round of the Rs 6 lakh Wills Northern Open Golf Championship played at the par-70,6,323 yard Lucknow golf course.Two strokes behind, at joint second spot were Lucknow’s Vijay Kumar and Rafiq Ali at three under 137. Feroz Ali wasplaced on the fourth spot at two under 138.

Wellingdon second

GURGAON: Rambagh Club (Jaipur) played consistently finishing on top with 222.4 points on the opening day of the two-day sixth Johnnie Walker International Club Golf Championship at the Classic Golf Resort.Willingdon Club (Mumbai) were placed second with 224.2 points.
