ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: Pakistan’s former playboy Imran Khan has denied reports that his marriage with British heiress Jemima is on the rocks and accused political opponents of setting up his recent dramatic encounter with ex-girlfriend Sita White.
“I am returning to my wife and child, if there is any truth in these reports, how can I be returning to them,” he was quoted by the Islamabad daily The News as saying in a telephone interview from the United States published today.
Khan, who turned his fame as a top cricketer into a career as a social activist and politicians, said he had informed his wife about the “drama” White staged at a Los Angeles fund-raising dinner for the cancer hospital he has built in his hometown Lahore.
White, a US socialite, turned up at the dinner with her seven-year-old daughter, whom she claimed Imran had fathered, which Imran denies. Their meeting led to reports in the British press that Jemima wanted a separation from Imran Khan.
“How could I stop someone fromcontribution to a public charity or stop someone from attending a public dinner,” he told The News.
Khan said his wife could not accompany him on the fund-raising trip to the US because she was pregnant. “She will remain in London until the birth of our second child,” he said.
An Imran aide said Sita staged a “small drama” by making a sudden appearance and being photographed with him. It was a “set-up”, the aide, Mehmood Aman said.
