JALANDHAR, July 23: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has directed Inspector General of Police, Crime, Punjab to investigate the shocking incident of a man allegedly killing five members of his family and then committing `suicide’ by hanging himself here recently.

The inquiry has been ordered following apprehensions of foul play voiced by the relatives of the deceased.

The police have claimed that Harmadan Singh of Deep Singh Nagar locality here had killed his wife and four children before hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

The IG (Crime) has been asked to investigate the matter immediately and submit a report within a week, according to a release by Punjab Director General of Police, P. C. Dogra.

The incident had sent shock waves in the city.

The police had claimed that the man had killed his family and himself due to economic hardships being faced by them.

However, some relatives of the deceased yesterday disputed the version of the police, saying that the deceased did not own anything to anybody and was not facing economic hardships.
