JD-S chief H D Deve Gowda said he was not against BSP chief Mayawati becoming the Prime Minister.

“She is the Chief Minister of the largest state in the country. If she can rule UP, I see no reason why she cannot administer the country also,” he said.

He said he has nothing against Mayawati and that he was not against her becoming the Prime Minister of the country.

However, Gowda said the issue of prime ministership was not discussed at the meeting of 11 parties on July 23, a day after the trust vote, to chalk out its strategy against the UPA Government.

Amid talk of the ‘Third Front’ projecting BSP chief Mayawati as its Prime Ministerial face, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat was non-committal on the issue, saying a decision in this regard will be taken at an ‘appropriate time’.

Senior leaders of various parties like TDP (Chandrababu Naidu) and TRS (K Chandrasekhar Rao) have already said that they were not averse to Mayawati becoming the Prime Minister of the country.
