MUMBAI, June 17: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally cleared off-spinner Rajesh Chauhan's action saying he is now free to play international cricket.Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary J Y Lele was conveyed this news by ICC administrative secretary at London.Lele, who arrived here this morning from London after attending a two-day ICC annual meeting, said now all doubts over Chauhan's bowling action had been cleared.Chauhan's bowling action came under a cloud after England captain Graham Gooch complained about it following a 3-0 rout here in 1993. The ICC reviewed his action in 1996, which temporarily put a `halt' on his career. The off-spinner returned to international cricket after Lele announced that ICC had 'verbally' cleared him. However, soon after the home series against Sri Lanka last year doubts were again expressed about his alleged `chucking'. He was not considered after the first Test against Australia early this year so that ICC could have more time and was able to give a final and formal verdict in the matter. When asked, Lele said he was unable to finalise the Pakistan's tour itinerary nor was he able to workout the details of tours of other countries to India despite the presence of all the secretaries of Test playing countries.Talking about the suggestions given at the captains meet there recently, he said those will be scrutinised by the ICC technical committee before being passed by the ICC's general body. The suggestions included improvement in umpiring standard, restriction on number of one-day internationals played by a country in a year, fixed ruling on fielding restrictions in one-dayers and more time for captains to prepare the match report.Fresh dates could also not be worked out for the Sahara one-day series between India, Pakistan and Canada to be played at Toronto in September this year. The dates were to be rescheduled as they clashed with those of the Commonwealth Games. However, the BCCI has assured the Indian Olympic Association that it will send the top team for the one-day cricket event at the Commonwealth Games to be held at Kuala Lumpur from September 11 to 21. This is the first time that cricket has been included at the Games.Lele was hoping to settle the issue during the ICC meeting but the talks there resulted in a stalemate. He did not explain why new dates could not be arranged.
