TIRUCHIRAPPALLI, August 5: The Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) (Tiruchirappalli Chapter) is to adopt Allampattiputhur village in the district, where lead poisoning is rampant among the children. The IAP will implement a comprehensive health programme in the village, where artificial gem cutting is the chief occupation. The chapter is also working towards getting the district declared as `baby friendly’. Tiruchirappalli will be the second district in the country, after Kochi, Kerala, to earn the distinction.
