If you ask me on my choice for my partner, it would be a close call. All three (Taufeeq, Salman) of us are young, we’ve been around for a couple of years. But based on the performances in the last series, I’d love to open with Salman. Why? He’s in form, he is confident and plays freely, mostly square of the wicket. In the end Salman’s confidence rubs off on you.
I’ve been batting at No 3 in domestic cricket but opening for Pakistan and I feel very comfortable at that spot. I am clear on what we have to do in India after 10-12 overs by Irfan and Zaheer, it will be down to the spinners. What we will have to do is to not let the Indian spinners settle especially on those pitches which will surely aid the spinners. That’s what we will try for sure.
