BHANDARA, May 4: “Baseless allegations levelled against me and subsequent mental torture was the price I paid for exposing financial irregularities by some prominent persons in Western Maharashtra,” said State Irrigation Minister Mahadeo Shivankar while talking to reporters here on the Maharashtra Day.
Alleging that the same persons tried to tarnish his image, Shivankar said he could face the ordeal and come out clean, thanks to people’s faith in him. Shivankar also spoke at length over the developmental schemes chalked out for all-round development of Vidarbha.
Stressing the need for keeping political differences and personal prejudices aside for development of the region, Shivankar said the leaders and people in Western Maharashtra stood united for the region’s progress. Citing an example, he said the Krishna Valley Irrigation Project received tremendous response from all sections of the society there.
He expressed his resolve to complete the Gosekhurd irrigation project in Bhandara district at the earliest and said leaders of all political parties in the district should join hands with the government in the project. Shivankar said justice would be done to the Gosekhurd project-hit and their demands would be considered sympathetically. He said a meeting has been convened on May 17 to sort out the problems being faced by the project-hit. Informing that 13 irrigation projects were sent to the Central Government for approval, Shivankar said eight of them were waiting final approval while the remaining were not sanctioned even in principle. Several other projects were also pending at various stages he said and added that all of them would be brought back on track soon.
When pointed out that various projects in the district were lingering for the past few months, he assured to look into the matter.
