CHANDIGARH, June 7: The members of the Multi-Purpose Sacked Health Workers Union, Punjab, today continued with their chain hunger strike outside the office of Director, Health, with the strike entering 21st day today.

The workers are protesting their dismissal by the state government. They said that they would continue with the agitation till the sacked workers are reinstated by the government through a special ordinance. Today, president of the sacked ANM Union, Gurmit Kaur, observed the hunger strike. In a joint statement, Gurmit Kaur and Rita Rani said that the Punjab government was going back on its promise of equality for women in the state by not reinstating them.
