NEW DELHI, April 8: Headquarters Delhi made a dream entry into the final of the all-India ESIC football competition, ousting West Bengal 5-3 in tie-breaker at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.

They will take on Delhi, the other team from the state, in the final tomorrow as Delhi trounced Tamil Nadu 5-0.

In a thrilling first semi-finals, Headquarters made the five-time champions West Bengal sweat it out. The holders find the going tough against a solid defence of Headquarters and the match was taken to the wire to be decided in tiebreaker.

In the crunch situation, Headquarters came up with five goals to that of three by West Bengal.

The other semi-final proved to be a one-sided affair with Tamil Nadu team making little effort against a tough Delhi outfit. Delhi could have scored more than they did as they missed some easy chances.

In carrom, Mohan Singh and Mukesh Khanna of Delhi entered the final beating Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Chopra and Mohinder Shukla. In volleyball, HQs Delhi downed Kerala 25-16, 25-14, 25-11 while Tamil Nadu defeated Gujarat in straight games. Headquarters’s spikers began somewhat sluggishly in the first game but in the next two games came up strongly to outwit their rivals.

In badminton, Delhi feated DMD 15-6, 15-9 to enter the final. Delhi accounted for Karnataka 3-1 in the table tennis competition to make it to the final.
