SHIMLA, June 16: Himachal Pradesh Governor V.S. Rama Devi today met President K.R.Narayanan at The Retreat and discussed several issues pertaining to developmental scenario in the state.

Though president had been keeping himself busy mainly in “reading and writing” work at The Retreat, he had agreed to receive two dignatories, including state assembly Speaker Gulab Singh Thakur. On his return after the meeting, Thakur said he had an excellent sitting with the President and briefed him about the working of the legislature in the state. The President, he said evinced keen interest in the state assembly working which is considered as “Gentleman” of all the Houses in the country. He also briefed the President about composition of the present assembly.

The information received from The Retreat staff reveals that the President was really in a holiday mood and spent most of his time, either enjoying the scenic beauty or reading books and newspapers.

The president had also been receiving a regular ``dak” from the Rashtrapati Bhawan and also keep himself informed on important national developments.

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who is to visit Shimla on June 22 for his civic reception, is also scheduled to call on President.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers, motor mechanics and other petty traders in the Sanjauli and Dhalli areas, have lodged a strong protest over an undue harassment by the police, which had prohibited them from carrying out any work along the road. “If they continue to do it and keep our working suspended like this, we would not hesitate to hold a demonstration near The Retreat”, the motor mechanics and shopkeepers threatened today

.The police, however, maintains that restrictions on them were part of precautionary measures from security point of view as the Prime Minister would be travelling through the road on June 22 to reach The Ridge and Raj Bhawan later.
