SPECIAL OFFER: This is a special offer to HDFC customers and is valid up to March 31, 2005. This does not indicate a change in the existing rate structure. The rate on fixed-rate loans remains unchanged at 8.5 per cent

THE TRIGGER: Banks, which have access to cheaper funds such as savings accounts, have been snatching market share from housing finance companies like HDFC which in turn have to raise cash through bond offerings at relatively higher rates.

Besides, HDFC — which was No 1 till recently — is witnessing a fall in its market share in terms of incremental disbursement at about 20-25 per cent, just behind ICICI Bank whose share is slightly above 25%
