SRINAGAR, SEPT 11: Hizbul Mujahideen today dismissed media-reports that it had been taken over by Pakistan’s Jamaat-E-Islami.

“Neither any meeting took place between Pakistan Jamaat-E-Islami chief Qasi Hussain and supreme commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Syed Salahuddin, nor any Kashmir committee was formed,” Saleem Hashmi, spokesman of the outfit, told a local news agency on phone.

He alleged that the reports were being circulated to involve Hizbul Mujahideen in “unecessary conflicts” and “harm its local character”. The spokesman said the anti-movement propagandists should desist from such nefarious designs as it will take them nowhere.

Earlier, some sources, who quoted reports across the border, had informed that the Jamaat-E-Islamia (JeI) of Pakistan had effectively taken over the control of the Hizbul and formed a small committee to oversee the functioning of the militant outfit.

They had said further that JeI chief in Pakistan Qazi Hussain, who had taken over the leadership of the HM, had set up a small committee to decide the future policies of the terrorist organisation. HM chief, Syed Salahuddin, and senior JeI members, Ghulam Nabi Nausheri and Abdul Rashid had been included in the committee, they had added.

The sources added that the JeI move had come as it had been completely taken by surprise over the HM’s unilateral declaration of a ceasefire on July 24 and did not want a recurrence of such incidents.
