EXPRESS NEWS SERVICENAGPUR, DECEMBER 25: Hindi will soon be included as a compulsory subject in the school syllabus in State, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, announced here recently. Presently Hindi has been included as an optional subject in the school syllabus. However, necessary changes will be made in the GR to introduce Hindi as a compulsory subject. If the government can introduce English as a compulsory subject from the primary level, Hindi can also be given equal importance, the CM asserted.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the annual convention of the Vidarbha Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. The announcement by the chief Minister came as a reaction to the demand by Pandit Shivkaran Sharma Chhangani, chairman of the convention, that Hindi be made compulsory at the school level. Chhangani said that the State Government is meting out partial treatment to Hindi by keeping it as an optional language at the school level. He presided over the inaugural session.
