SHIMLA, March 20: The BJP is in a position to form the government in Himachal Pradesh and is awaiting Union Cabinet’s decision on the governor’s report, the state BJP president Prem Kumar Dhumal said here today. He said he did not expect the Assembly to be kept in suspended animation by the Centre till the elections to three tribal and by-election to another constituency were held in June.

Asked how he would be able to provide majority as BJP and its ally Himachal Vikas Congress of former communications minister Sukh Ram had the same number of MPs (32) as the Congress has, he said, "We will prove the majority on the floor of the Assembly."

Accusing Governor V S Rama Devi for being partial when she called the Congress to form the government, Dhumal claimed that the lone Independent MLA Ramesh Chaudhary had "clearly" stated that his support was for the BJP and that he was "humiliated" by Congress leaders.

To a question whether BJP now enjoyed the support of Chaudhary after the resignation of ChiefMinister Virbhadra Singh, Dhumal said, "Why should we reveal our strategy in advance. He (Chaudhary) still continues to be a minister in care-taker Congress Government."

It was on the queer topic of Chaudhary, the outgoing CM Virbhadra Singh lost his cool at a press conference he had called on Thursday to release an 18-page document counter BJP charges on regional disparities. In fact, the former was the first of the three instances where Singh blew his top due to inconvenient questions from the scribes.

It was perhaps for the first time that Virbhadra Singh got provoked to such an extent. He remarked, Han main goonda hun, abbal darji ka badmash hun aur jhutha hun. (Yes, I am a goonda, and a liar of the first order). This reaction was in reply to a question of Sita Ram Khajuria (of Punjab Kesari), who wanted to know the role of Congress men in picking up Ramesh Chaudhary.

Though, Singh reserved his most vitriolic one for The Indian Express when he described its Wednesday page-onereport from Dehra (home town of Chaudhary) as "totally concocted and bullshit".
