NAGPUR, SEPT 20: The High Court Bench at Nagpur has granted a stay on the admission process for the 50 per cent seats reserved by the Maharashtra Agriculture Education and Research Council (MAERC) for the post-graduate agriculture science courses, all over the State. The process was set to begin from September 21 at the Council’s head-office in Pune.

The division bench comprising Justice M B Ghodeswar and S B Mhase granted the stay here on Saturday in response to the writ petition filed, last month, by three students of Dr Punjabrao Krishi Vidyalaya.

The writ challenges MAERC’s right to reserve 50 per cent post-graduate and 30 per cent graduate course seats in all the four Agriculture Universities in Maharashtra. It also calls for uniformity in the number of seats for PG course as well as the subjects in all the four universities.

In their written submissions, the respondents are reported to have pointed out that the decision to reserve 50 per cent PG and 30 per cent graduate level seats by MAERC wastaken at a joint meeting of the Vice-Chancellors of the four universities. Prior to that, the universities had their own methods to fill up these seats.
