PANAJI, OCT 16: Results of the Municipal Elections in Goa, held on October 15 and of which the results were declared today, is a clear indication that corruption was an important issue in these civic polls. On this issue alone, the electorate has rejected all the past chairpersons seeking renomination on the council.
Among those that suffered defeat were Subhash Narvekar (Mapuca), Ghanasham Shirodkar (Margao), Anita Govekar (Bicholim), Anant Jeli (Valpai), Vikas Desai (Pernew), Maria D’Costa (Curchorem) and Manuel D’Costa (Sanguem).
Subhash Narvekar, brother of Deputy Chief Minister Dayanand Narvekar, was not long ago charged with corruption in civic affairs by the Publicmen’s Corruption Commission.
