NEW DELHI, July 20: Medical services across Delhi were badly hit as over 70,000 Group C and D employees, including safai karamcharis, administrative clerks, laboratory assistants, X-ray and ECG technicians, dressers and catering staff of the Central and Delhi government run hospitals, went on a five-day strike from today.

The employees have threatened to continue their strike indefinitely, if the the government does not accept their demands within five days. Incidentally, it was only a week and a half ago that the same group of employees had gone on a two-day strike for the same reasons.

Some hospitals, however, have taken a tougher posture, announcing that they would re-employ their employees who had retired in the past three years. An advertisement to this effect would soon be published, the RML spokesperson said.
