Five more BDPOs in the dock
Six more returning officers for the forthcoming panchayat elections in Punjab, including five Block Development and Panchayat Officers BDPOs, are in a soup with State Election Commissioner SEC C. D. Cheema today ordering registration of police cases against them for various poll-related offences, a report from Chandigarh says.
Six drowned in boat tragedy
At least six persons were drowned and 12 missing when a boat capsized midstream in the Yamuna river near Faridabad in Haryana today, the police said. The boat ferrying 48 people sank in the river at Mohna Ghat, about 25 km from here, at around 3.30 p.m. following a sudden spurt in the water level, a report from Faridabad says.
