CHANDIGARH, Feb 1: Hari Om Sharma of Accountant General Allahabad and Baij Nath Prasad of AG (Audit) Haryana emerged winner and runner-up in the North Zone IA and AD chess championship which concluded at AG Haryana premises in Sector 33 here today.
Hari Om maintained a clean slate in the meet and outplayed Gurpratap Singh of AG Punjab in his last match and secured five points at the end of the last round to win the top slot.

Jerath elected
C K Jerath and Bikramjit Singh were unanimously elected secretary and president of the Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) in the general body meeting of CABA held today.
Other office bearer elected are: Satish Chandra (chairman); PS Sangha, SN Singla (senior vice-presidents); BM Pubial, SK Thakur, LV Sehgal (vice-presidents); GH Mandal, KIP Singh, Harjinder Pal Singh (joint secretaries); BS Virk (treasurer).
MS Brar, Balraj Thapar, GC Bhardwaj, Onkar Singh, AK Mathur are members of executive committee.
CK Jerath would also head the selection committee. Shiv Singh, Kuldip Singh, NK Durga, Balkar Singh and H Singh are other members of the committee.
DAVC sports day
The annual sports meet of DAV College, Sector 10 will commence tomorrow. The two-day meet will be inaugurated by Justice RN Mittal (retd) at 10.30 a.m., while chief guest on the closing ceremony would be Padamshree Charanjit Singh.
Sidhu elected
S S Sidhu and Brig Ramesh Chander (Retd) were unanimously elected secretary and president of the Chandigarh Bridge Association (CBA) in the CBA meeting held recently.
Other office bearers elected are: JK Sama (vice-president); Govinder Singh (treasure); Amrik Singh (secretary tournament); Ajay Kadian (joint secretary).
Helen Puri, Harjit Sidhu, Sunanda Jain, SS Oberoi, Pawan Kumar and Russle Lyall have been elected members of the executive committee.
Ranji Trophy
Indian Railways will take on Orrisa in the Ranji Trophy Super league matches to be held at Diesel Component Works (DCW), Patiala, from February 6.
The Indian Railways in their second encounter will play Maharashtra from February 14 to 17, at the same venue.
SAI hostel trials
Selection trials to select outstanding sportswomen in the age group of 14 to 19 years, who have excelled at the state and national level for admission to Sports Authority of India, Training Centre for Girls, Sector 18, will be held from February 4. Trials will be conducted in athletic, basketball, hockey and volleyball.
Players from Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are eligible for the trials.
Trials will also be held in the boys section for admission to Shivalik Public School-41.
In the discipline of football and volleyball the age group is 14 to 19 years while 8 to 12 years is for athletic and hockey.
Athletic and basketball trials will be held at Sports Complex Sector 7 while hockey and volleyball trials will be conducted at Government Girls Senior Secondary School-18.
Jhajjar win title
Jhajjar won the third Haryana State Women’s football championship here, beating Karnal 1-0 in the final yesterday.
In an evenly-contested final, the winning goal was scored by Sonika of a cross from right winger Sunil in 19th minute of the second half.
For the Hardline Cup (third place) Gurgaon beat Kurukshetra 2-0. Gurgaon dominated the game throughout. The first goal was scored by a penalty kick taken by Surbhi in the first half and the second was scored by Sangeeta in the second half. Earlier, Jhajjar prevailed over Gurgaon by 1-0 in the semifinal while Karnal routed Kurukshetra 7-0.
