MUMBAI, JULY 10: Spurred by The Indian Express initiative to help soldiers at the Kargil front to keep in touch with their families, the Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Dadar (Mumbai), has donated Rs one lakh to the Front-to-Family Fund.

The Fund was instituted after this paper reported the difficulty the jawans were facing in making that morale-boosting call home because of the lack of STD phones. Already 20 satellite phones, ten from Iridium and ten from the Saheed Parivar Raksha Nidhi, have been handed over to the Army for use by the jawans in Kargil. The money raised through the Fund will be used for buying more phones and paying for the call charges.

Presenting the cheque to The Indian Express, J S Palla, president of Shri Guru Singh Sabha observed: “There is no better morale-booster for a jawan at the front than to hear the voice of his family members. It is the duty of every Indian to help our soldiers in any small way one can.”
