Last year’s Plate group champions, Gujarat were five wickets away from a huge win as Saurashtra’s batting crumbled for a second time on day three of the Elite division Ranji Trophy match on Wednesday.

Resuming at an overnight score of 8 for 4, Saurashtra conceded a huge first-innings lead of 428 runs, after being bundled out for a paltry score of 153 in their first essay. Ravindra Jadeja(48) and Sandip Maniar(42) were the only batsmen to show some resistance.\For Gujarat, Siddharth Trivedi, who began the host’s slide on Tuesday, ended with figures of 5-44 in the first innings. He was ably supported by leg spinner Timil Patel (3-32).

Brief scores: Gujarat 581 for six (decl); Saurashtra 153 all out (R Jadeja 48, S Trivedi five for 44) and 74/5 (Thakkar 22, M Parmar 3 for 6)
