Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to shift the sensational Best Bakery case to Maharashtra, Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Amarsinh Chaudhary today expressed hope that the public prosecutor in the case would be appointed in consultation with the Opposition.
‘‘Though it is not a convention to consult the Opposition, I hope that the government would do so in this particular case so that proceedings are not one-sided,’’ he said.
Chaudhary was also critical of the state government for appointing the fast track court judge of Vadodara who had acquitted 21 accused in Best case, as advisor to GEB with ‘‘double pay and perks’’.
On GUJCOCA, Chaudhary said: ‘‘There were several unconstitutional provisions in this Bill and the ruling party had neither governor’s approval nor routed it through business advisory committee.’’ He said the Opposition would approach the Governor on Monday asking him not to sign the Bill and would also approach the President, the PM and the Home Minister.
