CHANDIGARH, Sept 17: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today allowed the plea of a senior Haryana IAS officer to have a specific government car for himself and directed the Haryana government to allot the same to him.

A division bench of the court comprising Justice J.L. Gupta and Justice N C Khichi allowed the plea of Haryana’s OSD (Manpower and Planning) S C Chaudhary to have the car (bearing number HR-04-0004), after he had approached the High Court for the same.

Observing that “It was unfortunate that a dispute between a senior IAS officer and the state had landed up in the court,” the bench wondered “as to why the state government was opposing his car”and “if it was really trying to comply with the assurances given to the court earlier”.

Chaudhary was earlier allotted a 1994 model car which was rejected by him on July 24, since the same was not in a good condition. He later requested the state government for the change of car and the state allotted him another car (HR-36A-0087), which was also returned by Chaudhary since it was also in bad condition.

Since the car sought by Chaudhary had already covered over 1.06 lakh kms and was older than the earlier cars allotted to him, the court allowed the same.
