CHANDIGARH, May 13: Local unit of the Sri Balmiki Sabha has accused the BJP-led coalition government at the Centre and the Union and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj quot;for having maintained silence over the sensitive issue of denigrating Maharishi Valmiki in tele-serial Jai Veer Hanuman.quot; The issue has been evoking protests across the country by the Valmiki community.

General secretary of the sabha, Prem Chand Premi said: quot;It is a matter of great regret that neither the government nor the concerned minister has issued a word to assuage the feelings of the community.quot;

Meanwhile, the North India SC/ST and BC Employees Presidium has flayed the quot;lathi chargequot; on Valmiki protesters, according to a press release issued here today.

In a meeting of the presidium, it demanded immediate closure of all such religious serials that hurt the feelings of any community.
