SURAT, May 21: Civil Supplies officials of the Bhilad checkpost in Valsad district, intercepted three trucks and seized commodities worth Rs 9.25 lakh, on Wednesday. According to information, stocks of edible oil and groundnuts in the truck were being illegally taken out of the state. Legal proceedings have been initiated against three establishments for violations of various provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, the Valsad collector said.
The government, in an order issued in April, had stated that a prior permission of the respective district collector of civil supplies department would have to be obtained even if the goods had to be transported through the district and that the civil supplies officials had to be informed 48 hours prior to the transportation of goods.
After the department was tipped that goods were being taken out of the state without permission, a team of Valsad district Civil Supplies officers led by K K Parmar carried out elaborate checking operation of vehicles.
In the first seizure, department officials intercepted a tanker (GJ 6 T 612), belonging to Pankaj Overseas Limited based at Morbi Road in Rajkot, carrying 9590 kgs of refined oil worth Rs 3.70 lakh to be delivered to C Raman Traders at Bangalore. Further examinations by the officials revealed that the owner of Pankaj Overseas Limited had not obtained a permission to transport the goods.
Department officials then intercepted another tanker at the Bhilad check post belonging to Krishna Oil Trek Industries located at Upleta in Rajkot district. The tanker (AP 31 U 3233) was allegedly transporting filtered mustard oil to Orissa without permission. Another 9640 kgs of mustard oil amounting to Rs 3.48 lakhs were taken into custody by the department.
A third truck carrying groundnuts was also seized from the same checkpost later in the day as the driver did not possess the necessary permission to transport goods out of the state. The stock of groundnuts was being transported by Hemantkumar and Sons located at Vakharia Bazaar in Judagadh to Leeladhar Private Limited in Mumbai. The truck (GTO 7781) along with the stock of 9000 kgs of groundnuts worth Rs 2.09 lakhs were also taken into custody.
Along with the goods, the three truck valued at Rs 14 lakh have also been confiscated by the department, said K K Parmar.
