Gold and silver closed continued their uptrend in the bullion market. Standard mint gold and gold biscuit went up by Rs 45 and Rs 700 in a single day and closed at Rs 5,315 per ten gm and Rs 62,400 per ten tola respectively.

Both metals had previously closed at Rs 5,300 and Rs 62,000 in the period January-March 1999, according to spokesperson of Bombay Bullion Association. Traders attributed Friday’s smart recovery to sustained purchases due to the on-going marriage season. Sellers were inactive in view of stronger advices from abroad like London, New York and Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai centres which boosted the Mumbai prices. Silver .999 fineness grade too shot up by Rs 70 to close at Rs 8,240 per kg on fresh demand.
