CHANDIGARH, MARCH 8: Sports club, Jalandhar, snatched a barriw sux-run win over Godrej Club of Chandigarh to win the Suneel Kapoor Memorial Invitation Cup Cricket Tournament at Doaba College in Jalandhar yesterday. Batting first the Jalandhar team were shaken by Haryana Ranji player Vineet Jain (4 for 31) as he struck thrice in quick succession with scorecard reading just 35.

However, stylish Haryana Ranji batsman Amarajit Kaypee (47) bolstered Sports Club. At the later stages of the final, Tejinder Singh struck 41 off 33 balls to enable Sports Club score 213 in 35 overs.

In reply Godrej Club lost three early wickets. Ranji player Munish Arora (23) and Amit Bhardwaj (68, one six, 10 fours) shared a 95-run partnership. As the Chandigarh club were poised for victory, this pair and Arun Tuli ran themselves out and the title slipped out of their firm grip.

Tejinder Singh (Sports Club) was declared the best all-rounder while Amit Bhardwaj and Parveen of Godrej Club were adjudged the best batsman and the best bowler respectively.

Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Madan Mohan Mittal distributed the prizes and announced a grand of Rs to ARI Sports Society, organisers of the tournament.

Brief Scores: Sports Club, Jalandhar: 213 for 8 in 35 overs (Amarjit Kaypee 47, Tejinder Singh 41 not out, Rajiv Sharma 31, Vineet Jain 4 for 31, Parveen 2 for 43, Girish Bhanot 2 for 33). Godrej Club, Chandigarh: 207 in 33.5 overs (Amit Bhardwaj 68, Arun Tuli 31, Munish Arora 23, Vineet 21, Gagandeep 3 for 40, Tejinder Singh 3 for 42).

UT cricket league
The Union Territory League Cricket Tournament will be oganised by UT Cricket Association from March 20. The matches will be held at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium and PGI Cricket Ground on Saturdays and Sundays.

Entry closes on March 15 with SS Bawa, House No. 2499, Sector 19-C, Chandigarh or Cricket Stadium supervisor Naib Singh.

Bhandari shines
An unbeaten all-round performance by Yoginder Bhandari (52 not out and 4 for 21) enabled Tari Cricket Club beat Eagle Cricket Club by 37 runs in the second Shanker Lal Memorial Cricket Tournament.

Electing to bat first Tari CC scored 152 for four wickets. In reply Eagle Club were dismissed for 115.

In another match, New Star XI beat Border XI by 41 runs.
