CHANDIGARH, July 27: They say that listening to music is akin to undertaking a voyage through the multifarious plains and peaks of one8217;s Self. Subhash Ghosh8217;s presentation 8212; 8220;A Journey of Music8221;8211; this evening provided one such experience.

A perfect blend of classical and Western notes and rhythm, the repertoire by Ghosh8217;s Academy of Indian Classical Music and Fine Arts enriched and enlightened the audience, only handful unfortunately. Though there were cacophonous elements which crept in at times, the compositions treated one to a variety of moods.

After the initial chants and shlokas, led by vocalist Mahinder Singh Rathore, it was time for instrumentalists to take over. The composition in Raag Malhar saw Vinod Pawar8217;s sarangi, Vijay8217;s flute and Ghosh8217;s guitar emerging to provide an interesting blend. The best part of this piece was when Paramjit Singh8217;s tabla did the 8220;jugal bandi8221; with Rajesh8217;s octopad.

Since it related the journey of music, Ghosh showed us the entry of Western music into our system too with a fine piece of jazz led by Dharam8217;s saxophone.

Yes, it was indeed an enjoyable 8220;journey8221;, in spite of a few glitches.
